Bijela Tabija (White Fortress)
Bijela Tabija, or the White Fortress, stands on a towering rocky outcrop 667 meters above sea level, directly overlooking the historic core of Sarajevo and the Miljacka River canyon. Originally built as a medieval Bosnian bastion and expanded into a massive stone artillery fortress during Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian rule, Bijela Tabija has witnessed centuries of siege, execution, and warfare. Known for its sweeping views and eerie nighttime atmosphere, the fortress is steeped in legends of executioners, phantom soldiers, and restless spirits from Sarajevo's turbulent past.
