    Perched dramatically atop a isolated, sheer limestone rock isolated from the surrounding mountain ridge by a deep natural chasm, Srebrenik Fortress is Bosnia's best-preserved medieval castle. Built in the early 14th century, it served as the royal stronghold of Ban Stjepan II Kotromanić and was the site where King Tvrtko I issued major royal charters. Linked to the mainland only by a narrow wooden bridge spanning a dizzying abyss, Srebrenik is steeped in tales of medieval sieges, royal curses, secret subterranean escapes, and phantom defenders.
