    Tsarichina Hole

    The Tsarichina Hole, often referred to as Bulgaria's Area 51, is the site of one of the most mysterious military excavations in Eastern European history. Between 1990 and 1992, the General Staff of the Bulgarian Armed Forces conducted Operation Light, a top-secret dig in the village of Tsarichina guided by psychics seeking a subterranean energy source and the tomb of a proto-human or extra-terrestrial entity. After excavating a 160-metre spiral shaft and encountering strange paranormal phenomena and tragic deaths, the military abruptly abandoned the project and sealed the hole under tons of reinforced concrete.
