    Muramvya Sacred Royal Sites

    MuramvyaBurundi16th–20th century

The Muramvya Sacred Royal Sites comprise a historic cultural landscape in central Burundi that served as the political and spiritual heartland of the Burundian kingdom for centuries. Featuring ancient royal burial forests, coronation groves, and ritual hills, the area is rich in court tradition and ancestral veneration. Local folklore asserts that the spirits of former kings and queen mothers continue to guard the sacred mountain ridges against human disrespect, land encroachment, and environmental destruction.
