    Oudong Mountain (Phnom Udong), located 40 kilometers northwest of Phnom Penh, served as the royal capital of Cambodia for over two hundred and fifty years (1618–1866). Rising like a ridge-backed dragon above surrounding countryside, the mountain summit is crowned with monumental stupas housing the consecrated ashes of ancient Khmer kings. Revered as the spiritual heart of the post-Angkorian realm, Oudong is steeped in legends of royal curses, sacred naga serpents, and ghostly royal guardians.
