    Choeung Ek Genocide Center

    Choeung Ek Genocide Center, located 17 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, is the best-known of the more than 20,000 mass execution sites scattered across Cambodia known as the Killing Fields. Between 1975 and 1979, over 15,000 men, women, and children transported from S-21 prison were executed and buried in mass graves here. Surrounded by quiet farmland and ancient longan orchards, Choeung Ek is revered as a sacred, deeply haunted site where spirits are said to roam during monsoon rainstorms.

    Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21)

    Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, formerly known as Security Prison 21 (S-21), is one of the most sobering dark-tourism and memorial sites in the world. Originally a quiet high school, it was converted by the Khmer Rouge regime in 1975 into a secret interrogation and torture facility where an estimated 18,000 to 20,000 prisoners were brutalized before being sent to execution sites. Today, visitors and museum staff report powerful spiritual presence, cold drafts, and phantom cries throughout the former cell blocks.
