Kirirom Abandoned Royal Villa
High on the pine-covered plateau of Kirirom National Park lies the abandoned royal villa complex constructed during the reign of King Norodom Sihanouk. Originally designated as 'Kirirom' ('Happy Mountain') in the 1940s, this cool highland retreat hosted Cambodian elites before being overrun by Khmer Rouge guerrillas. Today, the moss-covered, bullet-scarred stone chimneys standing amidst eerie pine forests are widely reported to be haunted by former royal residents and wartime spirits.
