    Citadel Hill (Fort George)

    HalifaxCanada1856

Overlooking the strategic harbor of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Citadel Hill (officially Fort George) is a star-shaped masonry fortress that represents four centuries of British military presence in North America. The current fourth-generation fort, completed in 1856, never fired a shot in battle, but served as a crucial imperial garrison, prison, and signal station. Today operated by Parks Canada as a National Historic Site, Citadel Hill is widely recognized as one of Atlantic Canada's most actively haunted landmarks. Visitors and re-enactors frequently encounter ghostly redcoat soldiers, a heartbroken phantom bride, and mysterious shadow figures in the stone casemates and dark subterranean gunpowder magazines.
