Fort-Lamy Colonial Quarter
Founded in 1910 by French commander Émile Gentil near the confluence of the Chari and Logone Rivers, Fort-Lamy served as the administrative capital of French Chad until being renamed N'Djamena in 1975. The historic colonial quarter along the riverfront features tree-lined avenues, shuttered European villas, and decaying military barracks from the Free French military era. Local residents describe paranormal occurrences around the old colonial buildings, including phantom footfalls in empty corridors, disembodied French chatter, and spectral guards standing watch over degraded river posts.
