Sinchon Museum of American War Atrocities

    SinchonDemocratic People's Republic of Korea1958

Located in Sinchon County, South Hwanghae Province, the Sinchon Museum of American War Atrocities is one of the most sobering and emotionally intense dark historical sites in North Korea. Established in 1958 and heavily expanded in 2015, the memorial complex documents the deaths of over 35,300 civilians—approximately a quarter of the county's total population—who perished during fifty days of intense conflict between October 17 and December 7, 1950, during the Korean War. Built directly over the historic bomb shelters, air-raid vaults, and mass grave mounds where thousands of women and children were executed, the complex retains an overwhelming atmosphere of historical trauma. Visitors, caretakers, and local guides report intense paranormal activity, including disembodied weeping inside the underground bomb shelters, drastic temperature drops, and shadowy specters wandering the memorial courtyards at night.
