    Perched atop a precipitous 2,460-meter granite peak above the town of Nefasit, Debre Bizen is the spiritual heart of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church. Founded in 1350 AD by Abba Filipos, this ancient monastic complex holds priceless illuminated Ge'ez manuscripts and sacred relics. Enveloped in perpetual mountain mists, monks and visitors speak of angelic chants, floating spectral lights, and ancient spiritual protectors guarding the holy summit.
