Sacred Heart Cathedral & Mission Hill

    LevukaFiji1858–1874

Sacred Heart Church and its prominent clock tower stand on Beach Street in Levuka, Fiji's original colonial capital and UNESCO World Heritage site. Built by the Marist Fathers in 1858, the church and adjacent Mission Hill are famous in Fijian folklore for the legend of the Headless Warrior—a spectral 19th-century Fijian defender who charges down the hillside at twilight near the old mission house.
