Gremi Citadel
Rising majestically on a rocky crag against the backdrop of the Caucasus Mountains, Gremi Citadel is the sole surviving remnant of the once-thriving 16th-century capital of the Kingdom of Kakheti. Obliterated during Shah Abbas I's brutal invasion in 1615, this isolated royal stronghold and Church of the Archangels remain shrouded in royal tragedy, martyrdom, and ghost lore. This historic site remains one of the most compelling and atmospheric dark tourism destinations in Georgia.
