Fort Metal Cross
Perched on a high promontory overlooking the fishing village of Dixcove, Fort Metal Cross was established by the English Royal African Company in 1692. Originally named Fort Dixcove, it earned its popular moniker from the heavy iron cross that topped its central bastion. The fortress served as a naval station, trading outpost, and slave holding prison, witnessing intense rivalries with the nearby Dutch-held Fort Batenstein. Today, Fort Metal Cross is famous among dark historians for its preserved dungeons and local legends of phantom footsteps, spectral lanterns along the cove, and ghostly naval officers pacing the battlements.
