    Frangokastello Castle, built by the Republic of Venice on the southern coast of Crete in the 1370s, is world-famous for one of the most remarkable documented shadow phenomena in paranormal history: the Drosoulites. Every year in late spring, around the anniversary of the bloody Battle of Frangokastello (May 1828), shadowy spectral marchers clad in armor appear at dawn, marching from the ancient monastery of Agios Charalambos toward the fortress walls.
