Sirok Castle (Siroki vár)
Perched high above the Mátra mountains on a volcanic ridge, Sirok Castle is famous for its hand-carved cave passages and the ghost legend of Gizella Kompolti. Built in the 13th century and expanded into a rock fortress, the castle saw battle against Ottoman forces before being blown up by Habsburg troops. Today, visitors explore the restored ruins and report seeing the tragic spirit of Gizella leaping from the rocky cliff wall.
