Babak Castle
Babak Castle (Ghal'eh-e Babak), perched high atop a mist-shrouded mountain peak at an elevation of 2,600 meters in the Arasbaran forests of East Azerbaijan, is a formidable ninth-century citadel. It served as the stronghold of Babak Khorramdin, the legendary Iranian revolutionary leader who resisted the Abbasid Caliphate for over two decades. Local legends tell of phantom warriors marching along the fog-laden parapets, blood-red sunrises reflecting ancient battles, and spirits guarding hidden rebel gold.
