Alamut Castle
Alamut Castle (Castle of the Assassins), perched dramatically atop a sheer 200-meter rock ridge in the Alborz Mountains of Qazvin Province, was the mountain stronghold of Hassan-i Sabbah and the legendary Order of Assassins (Hashashin). From 1090 to 1256 CE, this impregnable fortress served as the headquarters of a formidable secret order. Local legends tell of phantom assassins walking the cliff paths, whispers from subterranean libraries destroyed by Mongols, and spectral shadows haunting the ruined water cisterns.
