    Visconti Castle of Trezzo sull'Adda

    Trezzo sull'AddaItaly1300–1370

The Visconti Castle of Trezzo sull'Adda (Castello Visconteo) is a massive 14th-century fortress perched dramatically above a bend in the Adda River near Milan. Constructed by Bernabò Visconti, Lord of Milan, the castle is notorious for its bloody history of political imprisonment, torture, and fratricide—culminating in Bernabò's murder in his own dungeon by his ruthless nephew Gian Galeazzo Visconti in 1385. Famous for its 42-meter watchtower and subterranean dungeons, the castle is haunted by Bernabò's spirit and a spectral German soldier.
