    Hachioji Castle Ruins

    HachiojiJapan1571–1590

Hachioji Castle Ruins is a historic mountain fortress site located in western Tokyo's Hachioji City. Built in the late 1500s by Hōjō Ujiteru, the castle was the site of a brutal 1590 siege during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's unification campaign. Over 3,000 defenders, including women and children, died during the battle or committed mass suicide in the castle waterfall. Known for intense phantom screams, blood-red river legends, and ghostly apparitions, Hachioji Castle is widely regarded as Tokyo's most haunted historic ruin.
