Oiran Buchi Bridge
Oiran Buchi, or Courtesan Gorge, is a notorious mountain ravine located along the Yanagisawa River in Yamanashi Prefecture. The site derives its grim name from a horrific 16th-century massacre in which 55 oiran (courtesans) were betrayed and thrown to their deaths in the churning waters below by the Takeda clan to protect the secrecy of hidden gold mines. Shrouded in tragic history, dark legends, and spirit sightings, Oiran Buchi is widely regarded as one of Japan's most malevolent supernatural locations.
