Phou Khao Khouay
Phou Khao Khouay ('Buffalo Horn Mountain') is a vast, rugged National Protected Area located approximately 40 kilometers northeast of Vientiane, spanning Bolikhamsai and Vientiane Provinces. Famous for its dramatic sandstone table mountains, pristine rainforests, and rushing waterfalls like Tad Leuk and Tad Xay, the range is spiritually renowned across Laos. Inhabited by forest spirits (Phi Pa), Naga serpents, and reclusive ascetic meditating monks (Ruesi), Phou Khao Khouay is regarded as one of the country's most mystifying wilderness realms.
