Ēdole Castle in Kurzeme is a captivating thirteenth-century Gothic bishop’s castle built around 1264 by the Bishopric of Courland. Acquired in the sixteenth century by the noble von Behr family, who held the estate for nearly four hundred years, the castle was expanded into a romantic quadrangle featuring a prominent tower and courtyard park. Ēdole Castle is famous throughout Latvia for a bloody fraternal murder over love that left an indelible bloodstain on the Red Room wall.
