Jaunmoku Palace
Jaunmoku Palace near Tukums is an elegant Neo-Gothic hunting lodge constructed in 1901 for George Armitstead, the celebrated Mayor of Riga. Combining red-brick Neo-Gothic forms with Art Nouveau interior finishes, the estate served as a summer residence, military hospital, and forestry administrative centre. The palace is nationally famous for the tragedy of the White Lady—a young nanny who drowned herself in the estate pond after a tragic romance with a Baltic German officer during World War I. Hotel guests and museum staff frequently report seeing her pale ghost wandering the palace halls, piano melodies, and doors opening by themselves.
