Esch-sur-Sûre Castle
Perched dramatically on a steep rocky spur surrounded on three sides by a meander of the River Sûre, Esch-sur-Sûre Castle is one of the oldest feudal strongholds in Luxembourg. First recorded in 927 AD, the romantic ruined fortress features a round watchtower, ancient curtain walls, and a history steeped in medieval conflicts. Local lore links the castle to the ghostly legend of a grief-stricken crusader knight and mysterious lights appearing above the river gorge.
