Chongoni Rock Art Area
The Chongoni Rock Art Area covers 127 rock shelters situated across granite hills in the Dedza District of central Malawi. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it contains the highest concentration of rock art in Central Africa, created by ancient BaTwa hunter-gatherers and Chewa agriculturalists. The sites remain deeply connected to secretive ritual societies and local legends of spectral drummers and phantom ancestral guardians.
