Penang War Museum
The Penang War Museum, sprawling across 20 acres of dense jungle on Bukit Batu Maung at the southern tip of Penang Island, is widely regarded as one of Asia's most intensely haunted historical locations. Constructed in the 1930s by British Royal Engineers as a formidable coastal defense fortress, the site was captured by invading Japanese forces in December 1941. During the World War II occupation, the Japanese military transformed the complex into a brutal prisoner-of-war internment camp and execution ground commanded by a notoriously ruthless officer, Colonel Tadashi Kishi. National Geographic named the museum one of Asia's top ten most haunted places due to its dark history of public beheadings, torture, mass graves, and persistent supernatural encounters.
