Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden
The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, world-renowned as the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, is the oldest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere. Originally established in 1736 by French Governor Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais as a private vegetable estate for his residence at Château Mon Plaisir, it was developed into a botanical wonderland in 1770 by French botanist Pierre Poivre. Spanning 37 hectares, the garden is famous for its giant Victoria amazonica water lilies, talipot palms, and historic monuments. Behind its serene floral beauty lies a rich tapestry of hauntings, centering on the ghost of Pierre Poivre, phantom figures near Château Mon Plaisir, and ghostly whisperings in the spice groves.
