    Amarbayasgalant Monastery ('Monastery of Tranquil Felicity') is one of the three largest and most architectural intact Buddhist monastic complexes in Mongolia. Built between 1727 and 1736 by order of Qing Emperor Yongzheng to serve as the final resting shrine for Zanabazar (the 1st Jebtsundamba Khutughtu), this magnificent 28-temple complex sits isolated in the grassy Iven River valley. Having narrowly escaped total destruction during the 1937 purges, monks and visitors report phantom footsteps, flickering lights in uninhabited upper pavillions, and protective spirit guardians watching over Zanabazar's sacred crypt.
