    Kosmač Fortress

    BrajićiMontenegro1841–1850

Kosmač Fortress (Tvrđava Kosmač), standing at an elevation of 800 meters on Kosmač Hill near Brajići, is one of the most imposing Austro-Hungarian mountain fortifications in Montenegro. Built between 1841 and 1850 to guard the tense historical border between Austrian Dalmatia and the Principality of Montenegro, the fort was a focal point of bloody local rebellions, artillery battles, and wartime executions in both World Wars. Overlooking the entire Budva Riviera from its lonely mountain ridge, the ruined stone fort has earned a chilling reputation for disembodied bootsteps, phantom sentries patrolling broken battlements, sudden icy winds, and mysterious nocturnal lights.
