Žabljak Crnojevića
Žabljak Crnojevića is a dramatic, semi-abandoned medieval fortress town situated on a solitary cone-shaped hill where the Morača River meets Lake Skadar. Served as the royal capital of the medieval Principality of Zeta under Stefan I Crnojević and Ivan Crnojević in the fifteenth century, the fortress endured brutal siege warfare before falling to the Ottoman Empire in 1479. Over four centuries of continuous military clashes, bloody recaptures, and eventual abandonment have left the ancient stone walls steeped in dark folklore. Visitors and researchers report encountering phantom battle cries, unexplainable cold vapors, and apparitions of medieval defenders guarding the ruined royal ramparts.
