Gorongosa National Park Ruins
Gorongosa National Park in central Mozambique was once Africa's premier wildlife sanctuary, famous for its luxurious safari lodges, including the famous Chitengo camp and the iconic Lion House rest restaurant. During the Mozambican Civil War (1977–1992), the park became a battleground and strategic stronghold for RENAMO forces, resulting in heavy fighting, destruction of safari infrastructure, and devastating loss of human and animal life. Today, overgrown concrete ruins scattered across the wilderness carry haunting memories of war and persistent reports of phantom soldiers.
