Dhulikhel is an ancient Newar hill town situated on the eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley, famed for its preserved red-brick architecture, narrow cobbled lanes, and sweeping panoramic views of the high Himalayas. Perched high above the town on a pine-forested ridge lies Kalikasthan, a sacred hilltop shrine dedicated to the goddess Kali. Dhulikhel's location made it a crucial strategic battleground during King Prithvi Narayan Shah's eighteenth-century unification campaign. Locals and evening pilgrims report eerie ghost sightings, phantom soldier marches, disembodied cries on the forested ridge, and strange lights around ancient stone cremation grounds.
