Qalhat Ancient City
Qalhat Ancient City is a legendary medieval trade metropolis located along the Gulf of Oman south of Muscat. Once visited by famous globetrotters Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta, the vibrant city was devastated by a catastrophic earthquake in the 14th century and Portuguese attacks in 1508. Today, only the solitary domed tomb of Bibi Maryam stands among vast fields of ancient stone ruins, harboring tales of lost souls, sea spirits, and phantom calls over the ocean.
