Chitral Fort
Chitral Fort (Shahi Qila Chitral) is a majestic 18th-century riverside fortress situated on the banks of the Chitral River in Chitral Town, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Built in 1774 by Mohtaram Shah Katur II, the Mehtar (King) of Chitral, the fort served as the royal seat of the princely state of Chitral for nearly two centuries. Famous in British colonial history as the site of the dramatic 1895 Siege of Chitral, the fort is equally famous across northern Pakistan for local legends of royal court intrigue, dark dungeon torture, and phantom British soldiers patrolling the wooden ramparts alongside ancient princely spirits.
