    Rohtas Fort (Qila Rohtas) is a formidable 16th-century garrison fortress constructed near the town of Dina in Jhelum District, Punjab. Built by the Suri Emperor Sher Shah Suri between 1541 and 1548 to crush local Gakkhar tribal rebellions and block Mughal Emperor Humayun's return to India, the UNESCO World Heritage Site spans over 70 hectares with massive stone ramparts and twelve majestic gates. Infamous across Punjab for its centuries of military bloody sieges and executions, Rohtas Fort is reputed to be haunted by phantom Suri soldiers, disembodied battle cries, and shadowy guardians near the royal step-well (Baoli).
