Tighina Fortress
Tighina Fortress, also known as Bender Fortress, is a massive medieval stone stronghold resting along the Dniester River. Moldavian rulers constructed the initial timber fort before Ottoman forces captured and expanded the site into a formidable citadel in 1538. Centuries of violent sieges, foreign military occupations, and underground mysteries left a haunting atmosphere behind. Visitors and local guards frequently share eerie encounters with phantom soldiers and mysterious Ottoman figures patrolling the ancient ramparts.
