Soroca Fortress
Soroca Fortress is an iconic medieval stone stronghold built along the strategic banks of the Dniester River in northern Moldova. Originally established as a wooden river defense post by Prince Stephen the Great in 1499, it was later rebuilt in solid stone by Prince Petru Rareș. Centuries of intense military sieges, foreign occupations, and bloody battles left a lasting historic legacy. Today, dark lore and persistent stories of phantom guards and ghostly apparitions keep its eerie reputation alive among travelers and local historians.
