Teleki Castle
Situated along the Mureș River in Gornești, Teleki Castle (Castelul Teleki din Gornești) is widely regarded as one of Transylvania's finest examples of Grassalkovich-style Baroque architecture, earned the title of 'The Pearl of Mureș County'. Designed by Hungarian architect Andreas Mayerhoffer for Count Sámuel Teleki in the late eighteenth century, the fifty-two room manor features fifty-two windows representing the weeks of the year and seven doors symbolizing the days of the week. Ravaged during World War II when it was requisitioned as a military hospital and later converted into a children's tuberculosis preventorium under Communism, the castle is famed for spectral apparitions of a wartime nurse and phantom organ music echoing through the grand salon.
