    King Mutara III Rudahigwa Palace on Rukari Hill in Nyanza serves as a historic royal residence and cultural landmark in southern Rwanda. Constructed in 1930 with modern architectural influences, the palace grounds witnessed the dramatic transition of the ancient kingdom into modern statehood. Following the mysterious and sudden death of King Mutara III Rudahigwa in Bujumbura in July 1959, the palace became a focal point for intense local folklore and persistent tales of royal apparitions and disembodied ceremonial drumbeats.
