Castello di Fiorentino
Castello di Fiorentino, situated in the southern municipality of Fiorentino, comprises the ancient stone ruins of a once-impregnable Malatestian fortress known locally as Il Torrazzo. Built in the eleventh century, the castle changed hands multiple times between the rival Malatesta and Montefeltro families before being besieged, captured, and demolished by San Marino forces in 1463 to prevent future enemy occupation. Today, the atmospheric stone ruins overlooking the valley are renowned for paranormal sightings, including phantom fires flickering among the foundation stones, disembodied war cries, and specters of Renaissance warriors.
