Zarožje Watermill
The Zarožje Watermill (Jagodića vodenica) nestled in a remote mountain gorge in western Serbia is celebrated as the legendary home of Sava Savanović, Serbia's most famous folklore vampire. Immortalized in Milovan Glišić’s classic 1880 gothic novella 'After Ninety Years' and the 1973 horror film 'Leptirica', the mill was used by local farmers to grind grain overnight until a series of mysterious miller deaths cemented its dark reputation. When the wooden structure collapsed in 2012, local authorities half-jokingly issued public warnings that the homeless vampire might seek a new refuge.
