St. John's Island
St. John's Island, formerly known as Pulau Sekijang Bendera, is a 40-hectare island located 6.5 kilometers south of Singapore in the Singapore Strait. Famous today for its tranquil beaches, marine research centers, and resident cat population, the island harbors a grim, dark history. Throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries, it served as a penal settlement, a cholera and leprosy quarantine station, and a WWII Japanese prisoner-of-war execution camp featuring a infamous human chessboard where prisoners were allegedly executed. It is widely renowned for paranormal phenomena, including disembodied screams, phantom marching soldiers, and shadowy figures lurking on the shore.
