Čachtice Castle is an infamous 13th-century fortress ruin sitting atop a dramatic dolomitic hill in western Slovakia. The stronghold gained worldwide notoriety as the residence and prison of Countess Elizabeth Báthory, dubbed the Blood Countess, who was accused of torturing and murdering hundreds of young women. Today, visitors and ghost hunters report ghostly encounters, haunting groans, and unsettling physical sensations among the dramatic stone ruins.
