Zeila Ancient Port & Island Ruins
The Zeila Archaeological Ruins comprise the crumbling remains of one of the Horn of Africa's oldest Islamic port cities and trade centers. Originating in antiquity and flourishing as the primary harbor for the medieval Adal Sultanate, Zeila features ancient coral mosques, ruined royal tombs, and submerged harbor walls along the Gulf of Aden. Local mariners and desert nomads speak of phantom dhow ships, glowing spirit lanterns, and ancient voices whispering in early Arabic dialects.
