    Deim Zubeir Fort and Fortified Slave Boma in Western Bahr el Ghazal is one of South Sudan's most historically solemn and chilling sites. Originally built in the 1860s by the notorious trader and warlord Sebehr Rahma Pasha as a fortified merchant stronghold, the compound served as a central holding center for thousands of captives before their forced march northward. Today, the overgrown stone walls and subterranean holding pits evoke intense local folklore regarding trapped spirits, phantom chains, and nocturnal weeping.
