Mongalla Old River Post & Garrison Ruins
Mongalla Old River Post on the east bank of the White Nile served as the provincial capital of Mongalla Province during the early Anglo-Egyptian administration in the early 20th century. Established as a key riverport, telegraph station, and military garrison before its administrative functions were moved to Juba in 1930, the ruined brick offices, steamship piers, and overgrown perimeter walls are steeped in local folklore of phantom river steamers, colonial ghosts, and nocturnal sentry calls.
