Wau Old Colonial Fort & Garrison
Wau Old Colonial Fort & Garrison on the banks of the Jur River served as the strategic military hub for Anglo-Egyptian forces in northwestern South Sudan during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Marked by heavy brick garrisons, supply storehouses, and river defense trenches, the historic compound saw intense military standoffs and disease outbreaks, leaving behind weathered brick ruins where locals frequently report phantom sentries, march footsteps, and spectral lights.
