Jaffna Fort
Jaffna Fort is a massive pentagonal star fortress situated on the coast of the Jaffna Peninsula in northern Sri Lanka. Built by the Portuguese in 1619 and vastly expanded by the Dutch in 1680, it is considered one of the finest Dutch fortresses in Asia. Having witnessed centuries of colonial warfare, heavy sieges, and severe combat during the 30-year Sri Lankan Civil War, the restored fort is famous for haunting tales of ghost soldiers, disembodied cries, and midnight shadows.
