Mtoni Palace Ruins
Mtoni Palace, situated on the seafront five kilometres north of Stone Town, was the primary rural residence of Sultan Seyyid Said, the first Omani ruler of Zanzibar. Built in 1828, this once-sprawling palace complex featured lush palm gardens, a royal court, and lavish bathhouses accommodating over a thousand royal relatives, concubines, and attendants. Today, its romantic coral ruins are haunted by memories of royal intrigues, ghost sightings, and spectral violin music.
